Las Vegas rail known as Amtrak are still under servicing for the proposed work to connect Las Vegas to Los Angeles although it currently provides thruway service through Greyhound and it takes around 1 ½ hour to reach Kingman, Arizona. This European styled train is estimated to take around 5 ½ hour to complete a round from Los Angeles. The fare of the train would be $99 per trip.
In the mean while you would have to take the train from Los Angeles or Barstow and Amtrak & then take a bus to reach Las Vegas. The standard ticket to the Las Vegas strip is $15 and to Downtown $19.
The Monorail which operates on the eastern strip & has a capacity of an average of 2000-3000 people, stops over at the back side of various popular hotels in Las Vegas & charges $5 - $15 per trip. If you are schedule to visit Nevada & plan to ride the monorail. Then make sure you get a Nevada State ID or Clark County Sheriffs Card which is easily available at almost all customer service booths located at every station.
By Bus
There are several busses offered by Greyhound bus service especially on the routes to northeast Utah, southern California, and south into Arizona. You can also try a private charted bus trip to Las Vegas that tours throughout the country, so if you are planning to visit any cities around Las Vegas then this would be a good way of traveling around.
The most popular bus service that runs in the area is the CAT (Citizen Area Transit) & runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week & 365 days in a year. The charges in this service ranges from $2 to a mere $1.25. The Deuce double deck bus service that runs up and down the Strip is a 24 hour service with the fare that cost just $2 for one way.
By Car
The best way to move around the city is to rent a car one of the most cheap & popular means. There are easily available from McCarran International Airport. Although it would take around half an hour for pick up & drop off. But with the recent increase in the tax be prepared to pay an extra 50% for car rental.
So if your planning to tour around the city alone then this the best way to move around but keep in mind that at some of the tourist spots that have parking lot are quite far off or if there is a free valet parking area then you would have to wait for long hours that you would feel that self parking is better.
They are a great way to visit places like Red Rock Canyon, Lake Mead, Hoover Dam, and the Grand Canyon which is just a few mile away.
Trolley
Trolleys are basically a bus that looks like a wheeled means of transport that runs on railing and is propelled by electricity drive up and down the Las Vegas strip from 9:30 a.m. in the morning until 1:30 a.m. daily. It mainly stops over all major tourist attractions, but it goes in a loop. But keep in mind to carry enough change & are much slower than taxi especially during traffic jams. They cost around $2.50 to $4.25 trip.
